The LegiSchool Civics Virtual Institute gives a select number of high school students in California the opportunity to participate in a 4-week online program that explores important policy issues in California and provides students the tools to develop leadership and professional skills. Participants will meet virtually on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons from 1pm - 4pm and a $250 stipend will be provided to the student at the completion of the summer program. Students will learn about each of the three branches of government with an emphasis on public service and the political process. Activities include: online discussions with experts to learn more about state agencies, the judicial branch, the executive branch, California policy and politics, as well as attend online webinars and professional workshops. Please note that The LegiSchool Civics Virtual Institute is an online summer internship program and is not a Sacramento State college course.
Who can apply? Applicants must be a freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior at any California high school for the 2024-2025 school year. Example: A high school senior that graduated in May 2025 can apply. An incoming freshman that will be a 9th grader in the 2025 - 2024 school year cannot apply. Applications are open to high school students in the state of California only.
What are the dates and participation requirements? Participants must have reliable internet access and have access to a computer and webcam for online webinars and presentations on Monday, Wednesdays and Friday afternoons from 1pm - 4pm, and be willing to commit to the entirety of the program, June 23, 2025 - July 18, 2025.
When are interviews? Invitations to interview will be sent to a limited number of applicants on June 2nd. Interviews will take place via zoom from June 10 - June 13.
